General Job Description: 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Collaborate with educational staff and others to provide a coordinated school health program
  2. Plan and implement health care in collaboration with staff, family and the student
  3. Collaborate with others to maximize services and j prevent duplication
  4. Assist students, families and staff to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education/promotion
  5. Participate with community members about school/community health services
  6. Apply nursing theory as the basis for decision-making in the school setting while expanding knowledge and skills.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Plan for and manage the resources for which he/she is responsible, including personnel, supplies, facilities, program and time
    • Communicate accurately and effectively
    • Serve as a healthy role model for students, families and staff
    • Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors and administrators
    • Maintain confidentiality of students and staff
    • Perform personnel functions of supervising, training, delegation of duties and staff development of healthroom assistants
    • Coordinate the operation of the school health office
    • Collect and report data regarding health status of students as requested
    • Other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor

 

 

 

Qualifications:    Must have current professional registered Nurse license (RN), be able to acquire NM PED school nurse license,BS in nursing recommended, CPR certification required and 1 or more years in school nursing preferred.

 

Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture may be required.

 

Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. 

 

Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. 

 

Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
