Description | Position: Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

General Job Description: The Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment shall perform such duties as are delegated by the Superintendent. He/She shall be responsible for integrating instructional programs for the district in collaboration with all coordinators, directors, principals, teachers, and educational assistants. The Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment will share in the development, application and interpretation of school and administrative policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the District’s leader in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
- Responsible for strategic planning and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment for PreK-12 to maintain systemic consistency of curriculum and assessment.
- Aligns and oversees the work of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment with the District’s Strategic Plan.
- Recommends for hire, supervises and evaluates Directors, Department Heads, Instructional Coaches and Facilitators and assumes responsibility for department results.
- Develops assessment protocols and tools for all subjects.
- Oversees and develops instructional grants for consistent implementation of curriculum and instruction.
- Facilitates communication and collaboration, both internally and in the community, regarding goals, programs, and initiatives related to curriculum and instruction, professional development, assessment, education reform, and program evaluation.
- Promotes an environment/climate conducive to productive performance.
- Plans for and manage the resources for which he/she is responsible, including personnel, finances, facilities program and time.
- Uses supervision, staff development, and performance evaluation to improve the program of the district.
- Demonstrates leadership and vision in the promotion of student achievement.
- Complies with all School Board policies and administrative regulations.
- Plans and implements a staff professional development plan in cooperation with the Human Resources Department, principals and teachers.
- Coordinates the instructional material adoption process and administer the instructional materials budget in cooperation with district staff.
- Supervises the Directors of Elementary and Secondary Curriculum, Directors of EPO, Title 1, and Bilingual and the assessment coordinator.
- NMDASH monitoring and support
- Literacy and Retention Report to the NMPED
- Mentoring support to Building Administrators through PLE/PPE
- Develops, coordinates and supervises advisory committees as needed to improve the instructional program.
- Conducts program needs assessment in cooperation with district staff.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the academic activity program in cooperation with district staff.
- Coordinates Homebound Services with district staff.
- Monitors Homeschool procedures
- Coordinates all departments in the academic success of all students
- Conducts special projects as requested, makes presentations to the community, performs other duties as assigned, performs tasks requested by the Superintendent.
- Recommends, develops, and manages the budget for curriculum and instruction including, textbooks/instructional materials.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Qualifications: Master’s degree in education, valid NM administrative license as required by the State of New Mexico, 5 years of experience in public school administration and supervision and/or teaching preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture may be required.
Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required.
