Position:      Parent Engagement Liaison

 

Supervisor: Mesa View Middle School Assistant Principal

 

General Job Description:    Under the direction of the Farmington Municipal Schools, the Parent Engagement Liaison will be responsible to lead family engagement planning, recruitment, and training activities.  The Parent Engagement Liaison will work to recruit families for parent engagement training, facilitate in-home visitations, organize and facilitate parent group workshops, manage the set up and operation of the Parent Resource Room, and implement and support parent engagement best practices such as Family Leadership Institute, Academic Parent Teacher Teams, and Parent Teacher Associations that support the mission of putting children and families first. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit parents to participate in parent engagement training such as Family Leadership Institute and parent group workshops
  • Connect with and inform parents about important upcoming school events
  • Promote the school through the development and distribution of newsletters in families first language
  • Assist in the creation, equipping and management of a Parent Resource Room that provides parents with access to computers with internet connection, community resource guides, and parenting literature, books and other resources
  • Assist in the development and deployment of a strategy to open the school after hours for families as a community school
  • Facilitate the development of community partnerships with community leaders, consultants, and social service organizations
  • Recruit parents and community business leaders to volunteer in classrooms
  • Assist in the creation of career cluster pathways for students by connecting with community business leaders
  • Assist in the development and deployment of a student ambassador program that welcomes all new students to the school
  • Assist in the development and deployment of a program to welcome new parents/families to the school and the community
  • Attend team meetings when necessary and as scheduled.
  • Accept other responsibilities and duties as deemed necessary by supervisor

 

Qualifications:  The Parent Engagement Liaison should understand public school education and its position in the community. He/she should demonstrate knowledge of how to contact and utilize community resources, good communication skills, the ability to work as a team member, and an interest in and understanding of child development and family systems. A graduate of FMS Family Leadership Institute classes is preferred.  Bilingual is a plus.

 

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired.  The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.

 

Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. 

 

Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision.  Work schedule hours must be flexible and after hour work may frequently be required.

 

Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.  Grant position.
