Position:  Bilingual Instructional Facilitator

Supervisor:  Director of Multicultural Services

 

Requirements:   Must be highly qualified, with both TESOL and Bilingual endorsements.   A Master’s Degree and/or Level III license is preferred, with previous teacher leadership experience.  Instructional Facilitators must demonstrate understanding of the New Mexico Common Core State Standards and English Language Development Standards as well either Dine Language Standards OR Spanish Language Standards. The facilitator must possess a deep knowledge of effective literacy and or math instruction, and best practices for instruction and assessment practices.   Fluency in speaking, reading and writing of the target language is a non-negotioable.

 

Job Description:  The Instructional Facilitator is a teacher who has both content and instructional expertise in reading, writing, and/or math. The Instructional Facilitator will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of effective language teaching as outlined by the Farmington Model of Instruction and research based TESOL strategies.   The Instructional Facilitator will provide support based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Support the vision of Farmington Municipal Schools and the Multicultural Department.
  2. Assist teachers in a collaborative model of observation, conversation, and lesson demonstration to analyze and reflect on their practice to promote quality instructional practices based upon data and the Farmington Model of Instruction.
  3. Support the understanding and implementation of the New Mexico Common Core State Standards and English Language Development Standards in addition to one of the following:  Dine Language Standards or Spanish Language Standards.
  4. Support the implementation of site and district curricular and instructional initiatives including, but not limited to pacing guides, proficiency scales, standards-based reporting, and intervention programs.
  5. Communicate effectively and create positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
  6. Participate fully in professional development for facilitators, including peer observations, professional research and reading, conferences and professional learning communities.
  7. Conduct research and provide resources on a range of effective and innovative practices.
  8. Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of data results.
  9. Support the instructional needs of teachers and PLC teams through the implementation of targeted focuses as outlined in individual teacher’s professional development plan (PDP).
  10. Work collaboratively and collegially with other Instructional Facilitators, curriculum specialists and district personnel.
  11. Participate in the development and delivery of New Teacher Professional Development and provide follow-up support for new teachers.
  12. Collaborate with principals in the development of PDP support and structure related coaching opportunities as directed by Central Office Administration.
  13. Conduct or supervise mandated language testing at school sites and train test administrators.
  14. Perform other duties and responsibilities related to instruction in all content areas as assigned by supervisor.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired.  The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.

 

Equipment/Technology Handled:   Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.

 

Work environment:    Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision.  After hour work may be required.  May make site or home visits when needed and appropriate.

 

Terms of Employment:   Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
