Position:  English Language Development Teacher

 

Supervisor:  Principal

 

Requirements:   Must be highly qualified, with TESOL endorsement.   A Master’s Degree and/or Level III license is preferred, with previous teaching experience.  All ELD teachers demonstrate understanding of the New Mexico Common Core State Standards, and English Language Development Standards. The teacher must possess a deep knowledge of effective literacy instruction, language acquisition, and assessment practices.  

 

Job Description:  The English Language Development teacher is knowledgeable in content and high yield instructional strategies i.e. the Farmington Model of Instruction as well as an expert in Language Acquisition in reading, writing, speaking and listening. The ELD teacher will provide students opportunities to learn and practice academic language, exposing them to sophisticated and varied vocabulary and grammatical structures. Students will participate in academic discussions, build skills to better understand instruction, and increase literacy skills. ?The English Language Development teacher will reaffirm student’ social, cultural, and historical experiences. ?

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support the vision of Farmington Municipal Schools.
  2. Review Language Usage Surveys and administer the WIDA screener when necessary.
  3. Assist teachers in a collaborative model of observation, conversation, and lesson demonstration to analyze and reflect on their practice to promote quality EL instructional practices based upon English Language Development, data, and the Farmington Model of Instruction.
  4. Support the understanding and implementation of the English Language Development Standards and Farmington grade level proficiency scales and pacing guides.
  5. Develop, maintain and review English Learner Student Profiles.
  6. Attend EL student related parent conferences and IEP meetings.
  7. Progress monitor English Language Proficiency growth. Share language acquisition data with students, classroom teachers, parents, and administration.
  8. Communicate regularly with Multicultural office.
  9. Participate fully in professional development at the building, district and state level to include professional research and reading, conferences and professional learning communities.
  10. Support the instructional needs of teachers and PLC teams through the implementation of SAT Plans for EL students.
  11. Work collaboratively and collegially with Instructional Facilitators, curriculum specialists and district personnel.
  12. Perform other duties and responsibilities related to English Language Development support as assigned.
  13. Conduct mandated ACCESS testing at school sites.

 

Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture may be required.

 

Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. 

 

Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision.  After hour work may be required.

 

Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
