Program description
The Project SEARCH Transition-to-Work Program is a unique, business-led, one-year employment preparation program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training through worksite rotations. The program culminates in individualized job development.
This position works at the job site with developmentally disabled students who are in their final year of high school to successfully meet their goals in group and individual supported employment settings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Participates as a team member with student, guardian, teacher and other individuals to identify vocational goals and to ensure a competitive employment situation for the student.
- Provides assessment of the student in terms of readiness and appropriateness of vocational goals.
- Performs job match with student-employee and community employer.
- Arranges interview with employer and student.
- Participate in completing job site environmental and comprehensive task analysis.
- Trains on site. Assists in developing natural support system; educates other coworkers as necessary.
- Prepares monthly reports and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Monitors, follows-up and documents all placements in cooperation with the teacher.
- May assist in arranging transportation for students within departments.
- Physically assists students to fulfill basic needs, including, but not limited to, lifting students, assisting them in use of the lavatory and/or wheelchair and when getting into and out of a vehicle.
- Obtains employer and employee feedback throughout entire training period and addresses identified problems.
- Trains students when changes occur on the job.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None required for this position.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year experience working with developmentally disabled individuals preferred.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours.
