POSITION: SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Student Services or Designee
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
The school social worker will provide educationally related social work services for students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare social or developmental histories for students with disabilities;
- Provide group and individual counseling with students and their families who are receiving special education, as need is identified through assessment;
- Work with those problems in student living situations (home, school, community) that affect their adjustment in school, and
- Mobilize school and community resources to enable students to receive benefit from their special education services;
- Fulfill district requirements for length of day, annual calendar and other work related schedules as may be identified;
- Attend Multidisciplinary Team meetings as needed to discuss student need, evaluation data and
to plan for goals and objectives, if appropriate;
- Maintain necessary and appropriate licensure;
- Accept other duties as may be assigned by
DESCRIPTION OF SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER DUTIES:
- The school social worker will conduct an individualized social-emotional-adaptive assessment of the student, the student's family and the educational and social communities, as
- Consult with school personnel, community agencies and/or family members to assess identified concerns.
- Participate in the development of interview/assessment procedures.
- Formulate individual goals and objectives for the management of each case and specify those goals on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), if
- The school social worker will employ appropriate methods of practice which enables students and their families to function adequately within their educational and community
- Provide individual, group and family counseling to students and families, as identified through
- Participate in planning for student transitions to help ensure continuity of services appropriate to the unique needs of individual students leaving school or transferring between service
- Ensure parental understanding of decisions, procedures and meetings affecting their children, particularly when cultural differences make communication difficult between school staff and
- Ensure parental participation in school conferences which affect their children through home visits, telephone calls, correspondence and other means as
- Identify school, district and community services appropriate to the needs of students and families, assisting with referrals to such resources and providing follow-up as necessary.
- Establish and maintain effective and appropriate interactions with community agencies
and service providers which will assist students to achieve their special education goals and objectives.
- The school social worker will utilize on-going appropriate methods to evaluate his/her services.
- Maintain a confidential file for all student/family
- Complete appropriate documentation as may be necessary for a student's confidential special education
- Maintain an up-to-date log, indicating types of referrals received, dates and status of referral and referral
- Complete promptly any written reports, as necessary and required, such as family assessments.
- Assess the effectiveness and further need for social work
- The school social worker will participate in other duties and responsibilities as assigned by
- Participate in in-service training, as assigned
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and committee meetings as required.

- Provide short-term assistance during crisis situations with students, families and/or staff emergencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- LCSW or LISW licensure required.
- Effective verbal and written communication
- The ability to work effectively with parents, students and school
- Demonstrate an awareness of timelines; ability to work effectively during the school
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar established annually by the Board of Education. |
